Liquidity Pool
A liquidity pool is a collection of tokens locked in a smart contract so that others can trade, lend or borrow against it. Users who deposit tokens, called liquidity providers, usually receive a receipt token representing their share and earn a portion of fees. Pools make on-chain markets possible without traditional market makers, but depositors face smart-contract risk, impermanent loss and changes in the value of the tokens they supplied.
