Blockchain

Also known as block chain

A blockchain is a shared database that records transactions in batches called blocks. Each block contains a cryptographic reference to the one before it, forming a chain that makes past records very hard to alter without detection. Copies of the ledger are kept by many independent computers, called nodes, which follow common rules to agree on which new blocks are valid. This lets participants who do not know or trust each other rely on the same record without a central administrator.
