Self-Custody

Also known as non-custodial noncustodial self-custodial

Self-custody means holding the private keys to your own crypto assets rather than leaving them with an exchange or other company. It removes dependence on a third party’s solvency and policies, captured in the phrase “not your keys, not your coins.” The trade-off is full personal responsibility: lost keys or seed phrases usually cannot be recovered, and mistakes such as sending funds to the wrong address are generally irreversible.
